<title>Extreme city bikers spur tourism appeal</title>
		<link>http://www.akkemehotel.com/news/26/</link>
<description>Last0 Sunday, pedestrians at Moskovskaya and Sovetskaya crossing were wowed at &quot;Downhill city&quot; - Central Asia`s first mountain biking competition. Both professional and amateur bikers zipped down a 750 meter terraced stretch of Sovietskaya. gaining air over steps while competing for the finish line. The free competition was open to all over 16 in Elite, Master-class and Women`s categories.
0
The aim of the competition was to popularize the extreme sport and mark Kyrgyzstan as a natural mountain-biking destination. Kyrgyzstan will always have mountains to attract tourists. Yet while mountaineers, climbers, bird-watchers, horse-enthusiasts and geologists flock to the country, foreign mountain-bikers are a surprising rarity.
At Downhill City, local bikers proudly demonstrated their skills honed from regular mountain runs. During the competition, participants displayed remarkable agility navigating the uneven sidewalks at extreme speeds. In the heat of the competition, others lost control of their bikes due to burst tires or sharp turns. All, however, made friends and plans to head for the mountains.
